animated GIF
definition
An animated GIF is an image encoded in
graphics interchange format (GIF),which contains a number of images or frames
in a single file and is described by its own graphic control extension. The
frames are presented in a specific order in order to convey animation. An
animated GIF can loop endlessly or stop after a few sequences.
how to achieve this
to make an animated GIF, you need to take photos of a person or object at different stages of moving and then use Photoshop to layer them on top of each other and play them at around a tenth of a second for each frame.
image bank
contact sheets
camera settings and equipment
to take these photos, i used the tripod to keep the camera steady, a Nikon D7100 and zoom lens, with an ISO of 400, and aperture of F5 and a shutter speed of 1/1250.
creating the final product
to make a GIF, you need to have a series of at least three photos that you can layer together, each one showing a different stage of the movement you want to show in your GIF. using the timeline feature in Photoshop to display them together, one after the other at about a tenth of a second per frame should give you the effect of movement.
before layering the photos, i had to reduce the size of them so that the file size wasn't too big for a GIF.
evaluation
if i were to attempt this shoot again, i would use more frames to make the distance between each of the movements smaller and less noticeable.
