wide angle to telephoto technique
definition
A lens allowing a camera to change
smoothly from a long shot to a close-up or vice versa by varying the focal
length. this can be used for things such as portraits where you want to focus more on the subject and include less of the background in focus.
Wide-angle lens are the opposite of the telephoto lens. It provides a broader field of view than the human eye. It can be used to take picture of a wide subject in a tight spot. you can use this lens if you want to take photos of a landscape.
how to achieve this
image bank
telephotos
wide angle photos
contact sheets
camera settings and equipment
for this shoot, i used a D7100 and a 18-270 zoom lens. i also used a tripod to help make sure the background was changed as little as possible. for the camera settings, i used aperture priority as i was more focused on the photo technique.
creating the final product
i decided not to edit these photos as i wanted to focus on the style of photo, and the photos from the shoot came out clear.
final product
in this shot, i used the lens on the wide angle setting which caused Sam's face to appear distorted.
this photo was taken from a few steps further than the last, this has lessened the distortion slightly but not completely.
this was taken a few more steps from the last, the photo is starting to look normally proportioned and more true to life.
for the last two images, the subject doesnt look distorted or warped in any way. this was taken from around 6-7 meters away.
evaluation of the end result
i am happy with the photos and the way the technique worked. if you look at the background, it becomes more and more blurred in each photo. however, if i were to do this shoot again, i would make sure the camera settings were appropriate as these came out darker than i had liked.
